Our Halloween Glyphs

This term our Mathematics strand is ‘statistics and probability’. For statistics we have been presenting data in different ways. This week we have been making ‘Glyphs’. A glyph is a special picture that tells us information about something or someone. To interpret the glyph you need a ‘Legend’. The legend explains what the different parts, shapes or colours mean. These Halloween glyphs tell you all about us. The rib lines show how old you are. There is one line for each year you are old. Stella's has six lines because she is six. The eye shape shows how many people are in your family. Smooth eyebrows are a girl, lightening bolt eyebrows are a boy. The stem colour shows what kinds of lollies you like best. The colour of the eyes show whether you like scary movies and stories or not.

Golf Challenge

Earlier this year our Golf sessions were postponed
because of bad weather.
On Wednesdays this term Coach Anna has been in to
teach us golf skills.
This week she set us a really difficult challenge.

We had to balance one golf ball on top of another.
It was very tricky and we had to use the virtues of
DETERMINATION and PERSEVERANCE.
We felt very proud when we made it.

If we were successful we tried 3 golf balls or 4 golf balls.
Great fun!!!!

Move It Term 3

In Term 3 the teina have been following the Go4It programme 'Move It'.
Each Monday we have worked hard for Monique to develop our gymnastics skills.
It has been great fun and we have all risen to the challenges
 she set us.
Our favourite activity was playing the parachute games
 in the last 2 lessons.

Numeracy Term 3

We have started this term with some problem solving in Numeracy.
We have had two problems this week.
  Mother Bear’s Shirts
Mother Bear is making three shirts for the young bears.
Shirts can have 3, 4 or 5 buttons.
How many buttons might she need?
Show all your answers.

And

 Mother Bear and the Cookies
Mother Bear is making 4 cookies.
She is going to decorate them with lollies.
She can use 2, 4 or 6 lollies on each cookie.
How many lollies might she need?

We had lots of fun and practiced our number work at the same time.
Watch our movie to see us working.

Cross Country

In Term 2 our main sports event is the School Cross Country, followed for some by the Cluster Cross Country
and for a few the Bay of Plenty Cross Country.
We all train hard and do our best.
This year for the first time we had hay bales to
jump over, that was great fun.

MATARIKI

It is Maori new Year.
We have been learning about the seven stars of Matariki, also known as Pleiades.
With Mrs Sutherland we have done some amazing art work.

The culmination of 2 terms Kapa Haka practises was our performance at the Cultural Festival.
We looked great in our Kapa Haka uniforms and enjoyed a photo opportunity with Whaea Janine before we went.

We practice hard and enjoy all our performances.

Happy Birthday

In Te Whanau Whakaakonga we have a unique way of doing things.
When it is someone's birthday we give them a special gift, a song.
We have quite a large repertoire and these boys chose opera style.

Enjoy!

Earth Systems

Our Term 2 Inquiry is 'Earth Systems'.
We have been busy doing ontological searches about each of the different Earth Systems
  • hydrosphere
  • cryosphere
  • atmosphere
  • biosphere
  • lithosphere

This week we have been presenting our learning to others by making 'Earth Systems Posters'.
Each poster has a definition of the 5 spheres and appropriate illustrations.

Harold and Jude

We enjoy visiting the Life Ed. caravan and seeing Harold and Jude. We have been learning about BODY SYSTEMS - particularly the respiratory  system and the digestive system.

The first three weeks

We have had a busy start to the year settling in to our new classes and getting to know one another.
In Te Whanau Whakaakonga we have been talking about IDENTITY - who we are and where we are from. We are already practicing our Mihimihi with one another.
Mrs Sutherland has already been in and started some amazing art projects with us - watch this space for photos soon!
Harold and Jude have also been at Broadlands this week helping us to learn about how our bodies work and how to keep them healthy.
On Friday we had our Broadlands School Triathlon, a great fun event in preparation for all those competing in Ironkidz this weekend.
